How do I use the Submission form?
Posting Options fields:
Submit a story file: Select "Yes" to submit/archive the story at the awards archive. Select "No", and your story will not be submitted to the awards or archived.
Story Text File: Browse to the file that contains your story. It must be a TEXT file. This means it must have a file extension of .txt. If you're submitting your story to be archived here at the awards site, you MUST select a file. HTML files are not accepted.
Submit a story link: Select "Yes" to submit a DIRECT link to the story at the awards archive. Select "No", and your story will not be submitted to the awards or archived.
Story link: Enter the DIRECT URL to your story, NOT the main page of your site.
Story Information fields:
Title: Enter the story title exactly the way you want it to appear. If the title starts with "The" or "A", put that word at the end, like, "Fine Day, A" or "Best Thing, The".
Author Name or pseudonym: Enter your name exactly the way you want it to appear. You must spell the name the same way every time you archive a story in order for someone to be able to search for your stories. You cannot include any special characters like & (use "and" instead) or # or $ in your name.
E-mail address of author: This will be the address readers will use to send feedback and that the awards archivists use to contact you if there's any questions or problems. If the story has more than one author, put only a comma between the email addresses, no spaces!
Author's website: Enter your website address, or leave blank if none. Please enter only one website address here, even if there are multiple authors.
Rating: Select the applicable rating. You must select a rating, select "Unrated" if you don't want to rate your story.
Other Info: All other info, summary, disclaimers, notes, spoilers, etc., should go in the story file at the top or on the webpage at the link you're submitting.
Do I have to use the Submission form to submit a story to the awards?
No. But the awards archivists would really really really love you if you did, because it would save us a lot of work.
You can submit your story by email by following the instructions under "How Do I Submit My Story?" in the awards rules.
I did something wrong! What now?
Relax. And contact the Archivist. Be sure to include your name and the story name. The Archivist will delete your story so that you can upload the revised version.
How should I format my text file?
Plain text: If possible, save your text file as Text Only. (If you have a choice between Text Only and Text Only with Line Breaks, choose the Text Only option. Text Only with Line Breaks makes for a very messy archived story.) Do not include HTML tags. Every line of text should begin flush with the left margin. Hit an extra return between paragraphs so each paragraph will be separated by a blank line.
Story Headers: Put all your normal story header info first, then put a blank line and then *** (three asterisks) which will be converted to a horizontal line when the story is archived. This will separate the headers from the text of your story. Then a blank line and then the first line of your story.
Italics: To make a word italicized, surround it in *asterisks*. The Submission form will convert it to italics. You can also put the asterisks around a paragraph, but this will only work for one paragraph at a time. You must put an asterisk in front of the first letter of the paragraph and directly after the period. If you have several paragraphs that have hard returns, you must put an asterisk at the beginning and end of each paragraph.
Bold: To make a word bold, put it in all CAPS on its own line. The Submission form will convert it to
Please note that in your HTML file the archive generates, the bolded word will remain on its own line and in CAPS.
Underlines: To underline text, simply surround the area to be underlined in _underscores_. This will convert everything between the underscores to underlined text.
Dividing lines: To make a horizontal line like this:
Insert three asterisks in row like this:
Last line: The last line of text in your story file should be "The End" and whatever notes or info you want after that. The Submission form will add your name, e-mail address and a link back to the Archive front door.
How do I find the stories?
You can go to the quick search links on the home page of the awards archive. The quick search pages are instantly updated whenever a story is added to the archive. Click on Last 7 Days or Last 30 Days for recent stories or click on a fandom that interests you or use the Author and Title links to find the stories you're looking for.
What if I need something changed in my archived story?
If you notice an error of some kind in the story here at the archive or wish to replace the story with a newer copy, you must contact the Archivist and your story will be deleted so that you can upload the revised version.
Can I re-upload stories?
No. If your story already exists on the archive, you MUST contact the Archivist first so that your story can be deleted, then you can upload the revised version.
Can I just submit a link to my story on my website?
Yes, simply select Yes for Submit a Story Link and then enter the DIRECT URL to your story (not the front page of your site) in the box for the Story link url.
What do I do if I still have questions or need help with something else?
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the Archivist.
